More Moments

I shared earlier a few of the key moments that I have experienced thus far during my lengthy stay here in Haiti. Key moments that may seem small, but capture an experience that is joyful or thought provoking. Let me share more moments from my time here:

  •  Hearing children yell “DahveedGehret” every time I walk through the living area
  • Seeing Junel reading the Bible to the boys in his room as they fall asleep . . . with Tina Turner’s “What’s Love Got To Do With It?” playing on the radio.
  • Cheering when a file actually attaches to an e-mail
  • Realizing at the end of the day that I’m still in my pajamas because I’ve been too busy to stop and change clothes, and further realizing that the things I did that day included hosting a visiting mission team and meeting one of the local mayors.
  • Catching a child trying to use glue as hand lotion and seeing the expression on her face when she finally understands what it actually is.
  • Watching the older girls laugh, giggle and squeal as they look at pictures of themselves when then they were younger.
  • Watching Ronal play the drums in the worship service.
  • Having to ask one of the children what day it is.
  • Having a conversation in Kreyol about the fact that I have never eaten cat, but I have eaten frog (but just the legs).
  • Finding Islanda standing in the large gathering room all by herself singing and worshipping.
