Valley View, Day 6

As I look around, everyone looks so nice with their new hairdos.  Nadege stood for hours tediously braiding hair into neat corn rolls.   I should have been first in line, afterall, I could have benefited the most from the instant face lift effect.  Projects planned had to be postponed, since materials were unavailable, so most of the day was spent playing with children and rescuing the puppies...

Valley View, Day 5

The day began with a wonderful breakfast of pancakes and bacon prepared by the two gentlemen of our group- thank you Corey and Phil! After breakfast and a devotion led by Sonya, the men headed off for supplies in town for the ceiling in the church room and for more cement and bricks for the church up the mountain. The women of the group assisted Donnie at the school to get the information on children...

Valley View, Day 4

I got up at 5:30 am, it was my day to cook breakfast with Sonya.  I wanted to shower and wash my hair prior to starting breakfast.  Surprise, the electricity doesn’t come back on till 6:00 am, when the generators are started.  Shower by flashlight, new experience.  The cold shower is much more welcomed in the evenings after a hot day’s work, than it is at 5:30 in the morning.  But it’s...

Valley View, Day 3

I think all slept much better last night.  Mike is better and the men and some of the ladies went back to do more work on the church in the mountains.  The rest of us finished gathering statistics from the school children.  We found that many of the 6th graders had graduated on to the 7th grade, so were no longer at Cabaret’s School.  This is good news.  Some children cannot move on, even though...

Valley View, Day 2

Sleeping was a challenge to say the least, last night, but with the Lord’s grace we still got a lot accomplished today.  Before the groups got started with their projects, Kim and Chassidy went to visit a woman nearby, who had recently had a miscarriage.  While her blood pressure was a bit high, she had no fever and seemed to be doing as well as could be expected.  The ladies prayed with her and...

Valley View Team from Louisville, KY

What an awesome day this has been.  Everyone should have the opportunity to be welcomed and greeted by many, many, loving children, as we have been today.  We left Miami at 10:05 this morning, and arrived in Port au Prince around noon.  The next leg of our journey was an experience, to say the least.  I am so glad Mike has become proficient in the art of Haitian driving.  The 20 miles to Bercy,...

One More Blog from FBC, Live Oak

Haiti is so beautiful. From the people that live there to the mountains that are all over the island. You can’t explain it. The kids at the orphanage just want someone to love on them and give them attention. They are really amazing kids. They are funny and can make you smile like never before. Or when you make them smile, that’s the greatest feeling anyone could ever have. When all...
