Soon after arrival, the team takes a tour of our facilities. These pictures were taken in our orphanage kitchen. 3 daily meals are prepared for our 28 resident children, and many of our 30+ employees.
Meet Madame Sargesse, our evening cook. Cooking for this crowd isn’t such a stretch- she has 9 children to cook for living in her home.
This is a Haitian cooker. It’s kind of...

Mrs. Margaret & Lori bonded in a special way on their mission trip When we have a team down, I try and have a couple of people join me for whatever Mission business? or tasks that need attending to. I want them to gain a better understanding of what it’s like to live in Haiti and what the mission does in the village of Bercy. This is the child of one of our employees, who brought her to...

The other day, actually it was Veteran’s Day!, I was doing a google search to try & find Crown Point Baptist’s website. I knew they have a cool webcast of Sunday services (thanks to the 2 Mike’s they have sent our way!). I was sick and thought I’d log on since I couldn’t attend church. Their website was down- under contruction- but while I was searching I came across...

I’m sure I read in a travel brochure somewhere that the Caribbean boasted beautiful, pristine beaches…..
… and glorious sunrises that take your breath away.
The flight over was calm enough. No problems at all, even though at our orientation that couple from the mission said we could expect delays.
I do wish I’d had enough time to eat something in Miami, though…and can...

The airport wasn’t to bad… I was really worried. I’d heard all the stories about chaos & dealing with customs. I held onto my green card (Rusty warned me I couldn’t get bck out of Haiti without it) and went with the group in search of all those bags we packed. Our church even pitched in extra cash at the last minute so we could bring extra baggage and much needed supplies!...

I think we’re finally coming to the edge of town. Maybe I can just sit back and relax for the drive through the countryside on out to te mission.
Definitely more like it! Mountains….palm trees…..getting better! Just wish I’d paid for that sandwich in Miami…granola bars since 4 this morning!
Wait a minute… hold the phone!!
What’s that smell??!!

What is that??? I guess it’s a river, but people are bathing and washing clothes in it. I see pigs rummaging through the piles of garbage dumped along the banks. Donkeys and livestock are drinking from it… I even see people filling barrels for their drinking water Is that where that awful smell is coming from?
Or maybe this is it… a place where garbage is dumped and burned by...

It seems they just arrived yesterday, it can’t be that they’re already gone! This was one great, hard-working, Jesus- loving, do-or-die group. They were short on complaining and long on teamwork and getting it done. ….and they did get it done! I can’t believe how much was accomplished in such a short time.
They unpacked, sorted and put away supplies from all 21 duffel bags...

Sitting down on the job???? Not hardly!!! This is the job. The orphanage now has two (soon to be three) new sofas. Anyone want to volunteer to come down and sew the cushions??? The guys did a marvelous job on these and the benches were put into immediate use for the birthday party we had for the November birthday children on Saturday evening. There was a sheet cake with candles, three rounds of “Happy...

Remember all those bags at the front of the church??? It took a little bit longer unpacking than it did to pack 22 bags and two trunks. Thanks to all of you who helped gather supplies both for the orphanage and for us. We are already using much of what was sent. Shoes and clothes get sorted tomorrow, swings and tools were used today, and peanut butter will be eaten all week (GRATEFULLY!!!). Of...
